Tara Terry Voit, PhD

Community building is of utmost importance to Tara, who views early childhood education (ECE) as the foundation for who she has become today.

Dr. Voit grew up in Cambridge, MA, where her African heritage and family values strongly influenced her pursuit of higher education. Academic institutions in her area provided vital support, promoting educational excellence in both public and private schools. Experience instilled in her a belief in connecting marginalized children and families to the best educational opportunities available.

In her 50s, Dr. Voit became a Southern Regional Education (SREB)Doctoral Fellow at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in Early Childhood Education, a milestone proudly achieved, demonstrating that higher education is attainable for all.

Her passion for creating social justice and leadership learning environments for children was ignited after attending a Reggio Emilia-inspired workshop in Mercatello sul Metauro, Italy, in 2016. After relocating to New Mexico from Cambridge, she earned her Montessori Certification and gained valuable experience managing, directing, and teaching in preschool programs across diverse communities, including Native American Pueblos, Hispanic American, African American, and European American schools.

Dr. Voit is dedicated to supporting under-resourced children and communities by highlighting their intellectual strengths, guided by the best research, effective practices, and curriculum tailored to their needs.
