"As an African American female, her childhood, and high school years were largely influenced by the cultural values, as her family pushed her towards higher education."

Tara was shown support by academic institutions, which promoted, and generously modeled educational excellence to public and private schools in the area.

This led her to believe in the power of connecting all marginalized children and families to the best education possible.

In Taras  50s, she received funding as a Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) Doctoral Fellow at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in the Department of Early Childhood Education.

Something she was greatly proud of, showing her, if she can achieve higher education opportunities others can also.
